Wooden house in the Carpathian Mountains for “Designing the Future” competition
- Year: 2014
- Location: Ivano-Frankivsk Region
- Purpose: Individual Residential Houses
The Italian company Marlegno together with the association of architects of the city Bergamo announced the competition for design of prefab wooden one-family house.
The decision must optimize and standardize the prefabricated constructions in a way that several modules could get differentvariants of architecture. The houses should have the total area of about 100 sq.m. They can be single-level or multi-level.
Each participant (in the competition took part near 300 studios and 1,000 architects) had to draft the project of the buildingtaking into account the landscape, climate and culture of the country they represent. Our choice fell on the UkrainianCarpathians – a land of fabulous mountain scenery.
The construction has a great impact on the environment, especially natural; therefore, the aim of our project was to minimize theimpact and preservation of natural slopes of the Carpathian Mountains.
Traditionally houses on slopes are placed on different levels terraces, destroying the natural topography. To solve this problem,load-bearing walls are raised above the ground on pillars firmly fixed in the ground. Floors of a building are attached to the wallslike shelves in a drawer.
Elements such as floors, walls and roof are wooden, the base of which is laminated beam. They are divided into smaller fragments for easy transportation and installation. These fragments are produced in the factory, and then transported to the construction site and assembled as a big constructor. The architectural diversity of the project is achieved by the fact thatthese elements can be modified by changing thus the overall look of the project accrording to the needs of every customer.
